Time is of the essence. We try to make more of it and there never seems to be enough. Efficiencies are introduced that take time to adjust to. It's the currency of our daily lives.
For the sake of time we should use the Covey concept of putting the big rocks of our life first. Our priorities should come first and fill the jar that is our life with all the little interruptions coming after, filling the gaps between what is really important.
Often, however, we try to fill our time with what's important but all the other little things take over. We need focus. We need tools so that we can do the things that really matter, consistently.
In clinical practice, I suggest using templates and time blocks and use evidence to see how we fill our time. Is it working? Are we putting first things first? Are we neglecting long-term patients for newly found leads and hoping for their sales at the expense of long-term repeat business? Is service really a promise or wishful thinking? Are we seeing service appointments as a profit center or a necessary evil? What are our patients experiencing, and what would they say our priorities are?
Sometime its easy to become an administrative machine that happens to sell hearing aids, rather than a patient care facility that has more clinical offering than administrative workload.
